Capturing the Wonders of the Earth through Nature Journaling
Nature journaling is a way to slow down and truly notice the natural world. By combining observation, writing, and sketching, we begin to see patterns, ask questions, and build a deeper connection to the places around us.
Join Laura Beltran, interpretive naturalist with Nature Investigations, for a hands-on introduction to nature journaling. You’ll be guided through a variety of simple, approachable techniques that help you record what you see, whether through words, drawings, or both, and discover the methods that work best for you. Each seasonal workshop introduces a different journaling prompt and technique, while also allowing time for open, self-directed observation. As the seasons change, participants will have the opportunity to notice shifts in weather, plant and animal activity, and the overall character of the landscape. Those who attend multiple sessions can compare their journals across the seasons, deepening their awareness of patterns and changes over time while also reflecting on how their own observations and questions evolve. This program is designed for beginners as well as those who want to spend more time observing and recording the natural world.
A simple, wholesome lunch is included, as well as journaling materials. Please bring a portable chair or blanket for sitting in the outdoors. This is a seasonal series, please feel free to join one or all sessions:

In celebration of liminal times: samhain
The ancient Celtic feast of Samhain celebrates the thinning of the veil between this world and the next, giving us a unique opportunity to witness the divine design in Nature as we descend into the dark season of winter. Too often we seek to resist the fading of color and falling of the leaves, the dying of the light and the gloom of the days ahead. This workshop will allow us to rest in this liminal space between seasons. We will find patterns and textures in the wild things that surround us at Mercy Ecospirituality Center, the offerings of the earth allowing us to find and create objects that commemorate this time of remembrance, reflection and letting go.
We will spend the first part of our Saturday together exploring our surroundings and gathering fallen, curled leaves, bare twigs, moss and bark – whatever speaks to us. We will then use two-part silicone to make flexible molds of our finds, cast them in polymer clay, and play! Our instructor, Liz Reardon, will guide us how to make a variety of crafts - jewelry, little wreaths, candle holders, ornaments. While our creations are curing in the oven, we will share traditional Celtic Soul cakes and tea. After making final touches on our pieces, we will gather outside to celebrate Samhain with a traditional fire (weather permitting) to close the day.
Date: Friday, October 30th, 2026
Time: 10:00am - 6:30pm
Cost: $50
